Priene's UNESCO Process

In 2018, the Ancient City of Priene was accepted onto the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. On September 6, 2023, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Söke Municipality signed a "Protocol on Cooperation in the Preparation of the Priene Ancient City Area Management Plan and UNESCO World Heritage List Candidacy File." On September 21, 2023, Söke Municipality and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, Directorate of Identification and Planning, initiated work to determine the boundaries of the Priene Area Management. On January 29, 2024, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism approved the Priene Ancient City Management Area Boundary. On September 12, 2024, an area management plan preparation team was formed within the Söke Municipality, and on October 18, 2024, Architect Mine AŞCI was appointed as the Priene Ancient City Area President by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. On May 7, 2025, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism approved the members of the Advisory Board and the Coordination and Supervision Board for the Priene Ancient City Management Area.DJI_0087.JPG
