Visit to Priene by IYTE
During the city tour organized by the Architecture Department of Izmir Institute of Technology, we provided information about the ancient city of Priene and the UNESCO processes.
As part of a city tour organized by the Department of Architecture at Izmir Institute of Technology, Priene Ancient City was visited. During the tour, participants were provided with on-site information about Priene's historical development, urban planning approach, and architectural features.
The program also addressed the site's UNESCO World Heritage process, nomination criteria, conservation-management approaches, and international heritage policies. In this context, the importance of academic studies and interdisciplinary approaches in the sustainable conservation and transmission of cultural heritage sites to future generations was emphasized.
The aim of the information provided was for students and participants to view the Ancient City of Priene not only as an archaeological site, but as a holistic cultural heritage site where history, architecture, urban planning, and conservation processes are evaluated together. This visit once again highlighted the value of field experience and on-site learning in the context of architectural education.
